ATIS Working Group Recommends Advancing Work on |
|
|
Washington – ATIS today announced the findings of its Technology and Operations (TOPS) Council initiative to address big data analytics in the ICT industry. The recommendations come from the work of ATIS’ Big Data Analytics Working Group to examine potential opportunities inherent in one of the largest data streams collected by any industry—that of network operators. The initiative examined the opportunities operators have to leverage information within their networks and federate an approach on a very large scale. “Communications services for everyday tasks leave behind them a ‘digital exhaust’ of behavior,” said ATIS President and CEO Susan M. Miller. “As new tracking technologies and methods of collection evolve, growth in this data stream will be exponential. ATIS’ big data analytics work can help to harness its potential.” Among its recommendations, the Working Group advocates beginning efforts to standardize an Analytics Metadata Framework to help users of big data analytics understand and leverage operator-generated analytics insight. The Framework would simplify the use of data from multiple operators, and allow analytics aggregators to present broader, cross-operator perspective. This initiative would involve coordination with other groups/bodies to leverage their work on data security and consumer privacy concerns. The findings also note that operators already exchange data in high volume using traditional B2B mechanisms; these could be leveraged for advancing telecom industry big data analysis initiatives. ATIS will investigate if reusing this mechanism for the exchange of analytic data can expedite implementation.
