ATIS Forms Alliance with Auto-ISAC to Advance Connected Car Cybersecurity

WASHINGTON — Nov. 8, 2016 — ATIS today announced its strategic alliance with the Automotive Information Sharing and Analysis Center (Auto-ISAC) to advance the shared goal of connected car cybersecurity. ATIS formed its Connected Car Cybersecurity Initiative to spearhead direct industry-to-industry dialogue between the ICT industry and vehicle original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to address improved cybersecurity for connected cars. The Auto-ISAC is central to the coordination and communication around industry-wide sharing of cyber threats and vulnerabilities to the connected cars.

“When it comes to cybersecurity, it is no longer enough to conduct important industry-to-industry coordination as an afterthought,” said ATIS President and CEO Susan Miller. “That is why ATIS is pleased to be working as a strategic partner with the Auto-ISAC to share the ICT industry’s approach to cybersecurity immediately. Our intent is to offer the benefits of our industry’s extensive experience with cybersecurity best practices and security services that could be provided by the network as a platform to the connected car as a platform.”

To support this initiative, ATIS is completing an analysis of the communications paths to the connected car, developing a cybersecurity threat model, and identifying solutions, including network services, that could be offered by the ICT industry. Another fast-tracked ATIS initiative, a white paper will be published in the fourth quarter of this year. An important objective is to support an industry-to-industry dialogue that could define a set of cybersecurity requirements that would apply to all ICT interfaces to the vehicle ecosystem.

“We are very excited and pleased to have formed this important relationship with ATIS,” said Faye Francy, Auto-ISAC Executive Director. “We believe that fostering coordination and communication on cybersecurity is a vital activity in ensuring the auto industry is as secure and resilient as possible.”
