ATIS Advances Collaborative Traffic Optimization Techniques in the Era of Video Streaming

ATIS today announces the release of Collaborative Traffic Optimization Techniques in the Era of Video Streaming, a white paper that presents an emerging collaborative approach to content classification techniques illustrated through real-world user stories and traffic scenarios and shows how these can be used to optimize user Quality of Experience (QoE) in information and communications networks.

Traditionally network operators optimized video using a network-based approach where all the identification and “optimization” was done in the network without application collaboration.  However, given the increase in the use of encryption for this type of traffic, this approach is increasingly ineffective. A more collaborative approach as highlighted in this paper is needed whereby the network works with applications allowing the application itself to perform the optimization. ATIS strongly recommends increased industry attention and analysis of the application-based approach presented.

“Improving QoE is one of our industry’s constant priorities,” said ATIS President and CEO Susan Miller. “The solutions outlined in this white paper will be indispensable to helping achieve this goal.  ATIS is already mapping the next steps for this work. They are to further develop and deploy the solutions identified and new industry-generated solutions in this area to better meet the optimization needs of users, network providers, and application developers.”
