ATIS Defines Policy-Driven Blueprint for Zero Trust in 5G Networks
WASHINGTON, April 13, 2026 — ATIS today announced the release of 5G Policy Management for Zero Trust, a new report by its Technology and Operations Council that defines how mobile network operators can operationalize Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) through policy-driven security across 5G and cloud-native environments. As operators navigate increasing scale, legacy coexistence, and multi-vendor complexity, the report positions policy management as the critical control layer for enabling consistent, auditable security enforcement.
5G Policy Management for Zero Trust makes a significant industry contribution by translating ZTA into concrete, implementable policy frameworks for 5G networks. Specifically, it outlines best practices for policy definition, decision-making, and enforcement across domains, including access control, data protection, automation, resilience, third-party risk, and monitoring. It also introduces a closed-loop model where policy decisions are continuously informed by real-time telemetry and context. ATIS’ comprehensive approach enables operators to move from static, perimeter-based security to adaptive, policy-driven enforcement at scale.
“As 5G networks become more distributed, software-driven, and multi-vendor, security must also evolve toward dynamic, policy-based enforcement,” said ATIS President and CEO Susan Miller. “With this report, ATIS provides operators with a practical, phased approach to operationalize Zero Trust by embedding policy management into the fabric of network operations to enable continuous, automated, and scalable security for today’s 5G deployments as well as future network evolution.”
