WASHINGTON, DC — ATIS today announced that Virginia Tech Applied Research Corporation (VT-ARC) has been selected as the Technical Program Office (TPO) for the Next G Alliance. In this role, VT-ARC will manage and synchronize the Next G Alliance working group deliverables and engage the broader academic research community in the initiative’s primary goal of establishing North American leadership in 6G. As a member of the VT-ARC team, Dr. Eric Burger, Research Professor of Computer Science at Georgetown University, will serve as Technical Director of the TPO. Burger formerly served as FCC CTO and Assistant Director for Telecommunications and Cybersecurity of Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) in the White House,
A critical part of the Next G Alliance’s work is developing the National 6G Roadmap. Geared toward the eventual commercialization of 6G, the Roadmap will address the full lifecycle of research, standardization, development, manufacturing and market readiness with a built-in focus on sustainability and the societal drivers that will shape future wireless technologies. The TPO is central to coordinating across the six Next G Alliance working groups developing the National 6G Roadmap: Roadmap Development, Green G, Technology, Applications, Spectrum and Societal and Economic Needs.
“VT-ARC will be a valuable partner in coordinating across the diverse landscape of working groups to help the Next G Alliance deliver on its ambitious agenda,” said ATIS President and CEO Susan Miller. “This effort involves approaching the broader research community with a vision that integrates business needs and R&D priorities. Through its demonstrated abilities in research management and outreach, VT-ARC will be a strategic partner in helping the Next G Alliance excel in its mission and position North America as a leader in future wireless generations.”
“As an organization dedicated to being a leader in innovative technologies that safeguard the nation and advance global welfare, we are excited about being selected as the Technical Program Office for the Next G Alliance,” said Virginia Tech Applied Research Corporation President & CEO John Forte. “VT-ARC is confident this partnership along with Eric Burger’s leadership as TPO Director will make a positive impact towards advancing 5G’s evolution and shaping 6G development and innovation.
