ATIS Report Confirms the Strength of the Nation’s Communications Networks

ATIS’ Network Reliability Steering Committee (NRSC) 2023–2024 Biennial Report affirms the continued health and resilience of America’s communications networks. More than infrastructure, these networks are the backbone of emergency response, commerce, and daily life. This report provides an overview of the NRSC’s work and recommendations over the past two years to strengthen reliability practices and processes that safeguard these networks.

During this period, the NRSC has advanced industry knowledge through research, guidance, and best practices addressing a wide range of reliability challenges. A major initiative was the Committee’s petition for rulemaking to update the FCC’s Part 4 rules, which require communications providers to report significant service disruptions and outages.

Additional highlights include:

  • A regulatory update on key developments impacting network reliability
  • An overview of industry best practices adopted by NRSC during the reporting period
  • Insights from the review and enhancement of the NRSC Emergency Preparedness and Recovery Checklist and the NRSC Pandemic Checklist

The NRSC brings together leading experts who serve as trusted advisors on the health and reliability of the nation’s communications infrastructure. Learn more about the NRSC and its role in safeguarding America’s networks.
