Get Up to Speed on Timing & Synchronization Fundamentals: Upcoming Tutorials Prep You for the Workshop on Sync & Timing Systems—and a World of “Time-Sensitive Everything”

THREE SYNC AND TIMING TUTORIALS: Surging growth in the number of applications that depend on precision timing to deliver services makes synchronization and timing systems a critical factor in many industries’ success. Three upcoming tutorials help you brush up on the basics in this field. If you are relatively new to sync and timing issues, these sessions are a must.

On Mar 2, at 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. ET, join the “Tutorial on Synchronization: a key function in Time-Sensitive Networking and beyond,” a joint tutorial of the ATIS Workshop on Synchronization and Timing Systems (WSTS) and the IEEE 802.1 Working Group. It introduces the principles of synchronization, synchronization techniques, e.g., the Telecom and the Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) profiles of the IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP), and application areas such as industrial automation and automotive in-vehicle network.

The IEEE-ATIS tutorial features some of the speakers and steering group members of ATIS’ Workshop on Synchronization and Timing Systems (WSTS), known as North America’s premier global event on the topic. WSTS takes place March 30, 31 and April 1.

The IEEE-ATIS joint tutorial is a brief introduction to timing issues.  To provide additional background for participants newer to timing and synchronization, and help prepare attendance at the full WSTS 2021, ATIS is producing two tutorials on Timing and Synchronization Fundamentals and ApplicationsATIS’ WSTS tutorials take place on March 24 and 25 at 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. ET.

Topics include: Clock Metrics, Atomic Clock and Primary Frequency Sources, GNSS as a Primary Time Source, Oscillators and Synchronized Clocks, ITU-T SG15/Q13, Testing Packet Time and Frequency, Distribution of Timing Over the Physical Layer of Networks/Over the Packet Layer of Networks, Sync in Telecom and Mobile Networks and more. In addition to listening to presentations, attendees will also be able to ask questions of the expert presenters. Full agenda.

COST: The Timing & Synchronization Fundamentals and Applications tutorials are available at no charge. The cost for the full three-day WSTS event is $150.

The IEEE workshop is complimentary to attend: https://ieee802.org/Tutorials.shtml
