WASHINGTON — Aug. 4, 2016 — ATIS’ achievements to develop and enhance the wireless emergency alert (WEA) system have been recognized in the 2016 American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) “Power of A” Awards program, celebrating the power of associations. ATIS received the award for developing the solutions required to implement the WEA system, which enables users to receive alerts on their wireless devices. These include those issued by the President, those involving imminent threats to safety and life, as well as AMBER alerts. The Award also recognized a series of studies ATIS conducted to identify the feasibility and standardization/implementation considerations for possible WEA system enhancements. This innovative, future-focused work is improving how Americans are able to communicate in potentially life-threatening situations.
“ATIS’ contributions have enabled wireless operators to put the nationwide Wireless Emergency Alert system into place and improve it based on the latest technologies. This work embodies the power of associations in unique way,” said ATIS President and CEO Susan Miller. “It is only within an environment such as ATIS that companies that may be marketplace competitors can cooperate so effectively – in this case to deliver innovations to benefit the public in potentially life-saving ways.”
“Congratulations to ATIS and its members for their hard work and for helping to make the world a better place,” said Sharon J. Swan, FASAE, CAE, Chief Executive Officer of the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics and chair of the Power of A Awards Judging Committee. “Their initiative exemplifies how associations are a positive force in our everyday lives – not just to the profession or industry they represent, but to society at large.”
ASAE’s Power of A Awards recognize the association community’s valuable contributions on the local, national and global levels. They reward outstanding accomplishments of associations and industry professionals for their efforts to enrich lives, create a competitive workforce, prepare society for the future, drive innovation and make a better world.
