What: With the beginning of hurricane season, ATIS today announced the importance of information and communications technology (ICT) service providers accessing the Emergency Preparedness and Response Checklist ATIS-0100019. This ICT industry resource provides general guidance regarding preparedness for and response to hurricanes as well as a wide array of emergency situations including earthquakes and other events causing major disruptions to operations, service and supplies. It offers timely consensus-based technical and operational expert guidance and best practices to all segments of the public communications industry.
Background: The Checklist (EPRC.xls) sets forth industry Best Practices offering guidance from industry leaders with years of vital experience in maintaining public communications networks and services to help prevent outages. It was developed by the ATIS Network Reliability Steering Committee (NRSC), a key set of industry advisors on the health of the nation’s communications networks. Employing a proactive approach, NRSC collaborates and holds quarterly public meetings with the FCC.
