Is GPS More Vulnerable Than Ever? An ATIS Webinar

WASHINGTON — Feb. 16, 2017 —

What: Join ATIS for the Is GPS More Vulnerable Than Ever webinar, which will shed light on the vulnerabilities in the GPS system that is the network’s main source of timing — as well as the forefront work addressing these vulnerabilities.

When: March 8, 2017; 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. ET

Background: Free to use and extremely accurate, GPS has become a ubiquitous source of time and frequency in today’s technologies. Communications, transportation, financial and power systems all depend on GPS time and positioning. Yet, as reliance on GPS increases these systems also grow more vulnerable — mainly because of threats such as jamming and spoofing.

While GPS vulnerabilities have a potentially devastating impact on a broad range of sectors, major inroads are being made to address them.  This ATIS webinar provides insight by bringing together government experts, network operators, as well as the manufacturers of receiving devices and timing technologies.  You will learn not only what’s at stake but how this broad community is mitigating the impact of GPS vulnerabilities – and creating the solutions that will deliver more secure and accurate time into the future.

Moderator: Marc Weiss, Marc Weiss Consulting

Panelists:

  • Richard Funderburk, Timing Systems Architect, Trimble
  • Richard Linzy, Senior Data/Facility Architecture Engineer, Windstream Communications
  • Sarah Mahmood, Resilient Systems Division, Homeland Security Advanced Research Projects Agency, Science & Technology Directorate, Department of Homeland Security
