Private sector-led, voluntary, consensus-based, global standards — crucial to innovation, economic growth, and national security — play a key role in driving U.S. technology leadership. Yet there are challenges to holding international standards meetings in the U.S., which limit access to participation. The Promoting United States Leadership in Standards Act of 2024 addresses a key challenge, the cost of hosting international standards meetings in the U.S., by creating a pilot program that would enable greater participation and leadership by U.S.-based companies.
“ATIS commends Senators Warner and Blackburn for introducing this legislation,” said ATIS President and CEO Susan Miller. “As the North American partner for 3GPP, we can attest to the value of holding balanced regional international standards meetings. We believe the objectives set forth in this act will help us achieve our vital mission.”
